The Alepia Evening Skincare Routine: Back to Basics
By Dr Constantini
In the evening, your skin mostly needs simple steps: removing the day’s impurities and make-up, then giving it what it needs for the night. That is the idea behind this routine: few products and habits you can keep.
Aleppo soap, the basis of the routine
Aleppo soap is made from saponified olive oil and laurel berry oil. On our website you will find it plain or in enriched versions (clay, nigella…).
Face and body: work the bar into a lather between wet hands, apply the foam, then rinse with lukewarm water. For dry or sensitive skin, choose a soap with a low laurel oil content and try it on a small area first. To help you choose, I wrote this article.
Hair: for short hair, Aleppo soap can be used as a shampoo. For long hair, we offer silicone-free and sulphate-free shampoos: shikakai (normal to oily hair) or argan (normal to dry hair). Our Aleppo shampoos made with saponified oils, with 15% or 40% laurel oil, and our No Poo shampoo with nigella oil are meant for very dry or coily hair only.
Shaving: an Aleppo soap with a low laurel oil content, or our Aleppo shaving soap, gives a creamy lather that helps the razor glide.
The evening routine in 4 steps
Step 1: cleanse. Wash your face and body with your Aleppo soap, then rinse well. Avoid contact with the eyes.
Step 2: remove make-up and tone. Sweep a cotton pad soaked in Alepia Damask rose micellar water over your face. It completes make-up removal and leaves the skin fresh. No need to rinse.
Step 3: serum. Apply a few drops of Alepia 4% hyaluronic acid serum and massage until absorbed. Hyaluronic acid helps hold water on the skin’s surface: the serum moisturises and prepares the skin for your oil or cream.
Step 4: nourish. Finish with a few drops of plant oil, or a small amount of Alepia cream or balm, gently massaged into slightly damp skin.
Which plant oil should you choose?
- Argan oil: it contains vitamin E and nourishes and softens dry or mature skin.
- Prickly pear seed oil: a rare oil, valued by mature skin for its dry touch.
- Nigella oil: a traditional Mediterranean oil with a distinctive scent that nourishes and softens the skin.
- Jojoba oil: light, it suits combination skin.
- Sweet almond oil: softening and nourishing, for dry skin.
You can also add one or two drops of oil to your night cream.
Going further
Ghassoul: this Moroccan clay, used for centuries, cleanses face, body and hair. Use it as a mask once a week.
Creams and balms: for skin that needs extra comfort at night.
In short
Cleanse, tone, moisturise, nourish: four steps, a few minutes each evening. Find our soaps, micellar water, serum and oils on alepia.com to build your routine.
